US Attempts to Stop Spam

Those letters that you know are worthless junk just by reading the subject line, those ridiculous Web page snapshots with your horoscope telling you today is a "1" and you shouldn't go outside...all spam. Nowadays spam in the electronic mailbox is worse than the coupon books and Pennysavers currently invading your snailmail box. Hopefully not for much longer though, in the United States at least.

The House of Representatives approved a bill yesterday that would require spam to at least have a valid and real reply rather than the craziness currently cluttering your inbox. It will also require those spammers to label the mail as spam so netizens know what it is before opening it.

ISPs may also have some choice if the bill goes through. They will be able to refuse to handle said spam if they do not wish to dedicate the resources to handling it.

Many states, such as Virginia, already have strict anti-spam laws on the books, which make it illegal to send spam through servers based in the state, amongst other things. Keep checking back as the bill moves through the rest of the process.
