COMDEX 99: ArcSoft Presents PhotoStudio 2000
ArcSoft, makers of digital imaging software and various image editing software, announced the release of PhotoStudio 2000 amongst other products. While there, I got the chance to explore the program and not being an advanced image editor or Photoshop user, this program was very easy to use. Immediately, I was able to edit the image and enjoy the many fun features it has to offer. The menus were simple to follow and did not contain an overwhelming amount of sub-levels and advanced features which novice users would not understand. However, the program does provide the features that any advanced user would enjoy.
PhotoStudio provides an easy to understand, point-and-click user interface with features such as red eye reduction and sharpness enhancement to digitally edit your photos and increase their quality. PhotoStudio offers effects such as sketch and oil painting so that anyone can take a normal image and completely change it into a masterful oil painting with a few simple mouse clicks.
COMDEX 99: Linux PC jNetCube
Hardware in the computer consists of a StrongARM SA-110 233MHz chip,
along with between 16MB and 64MB of SDRAM. A sizeable 13GB hard drive is
included as well as a 2MB to 4MB SVGA video card. For networking ability, a
choice of 100/10 Base Ethernet or 56k modem is available. The JNetCube comes
standard with 2 PCI slots, making it a nicely expandable PC at low
costs to the user. A floppy drive is standard along with a high speed
CD-ROM.
Operating on Linux Kernel 2.2.10, this PC comes prepackaged with
Netscape, ICQ, Samba, and Apache Web server software. An array of
development tools is provided with this system to coincide with the
open source nature of Linux. Perl, Tcl/Tk and Xlisp programs are also included.
Among other utilities and multimedia components, the jNetCube comes standard with The
GIMP, an open source Photoshop clone, and Ghostview, a Post Script environment, as well as Xaudio for playing MP3 and WAV media.
COMDEX 99: Diskeeper 5.0 for Windows 2000
Functioning as a background service, Diskeeper 5.0 allows the user to continue using the PC while the defragmentation process occurs. Revolutionary new features such as Frag Guard fragmentation technology and automatic network defrag scheduling make Diskeeper a
great option for small businesses and large networks. It also features
an analyze option which allows the user to see which directories and files
are most fragmented, along with a color coded chart of the drive and its
fragmentation.
The auto-scheduling feature available in the Server version of
this software and can be used to defrag any number of selected
domains or workstations. An automated schedule can be easily changed for any specific computer. The workstation version of Diskeeper also has a scheduling option, with 4
different criterions for the times and days it defragments any number
of selected drives on the system.
